Two Waiter Jobs in Austria! 1000 euros difference! Why?
Same job different pay
Currently, two waiter jobs were posted on the Waiters Network from two different hotels. One is paying 1600 euros, the other 2600 euros, and you are asking why!
Great question because it shows the difference between the good life and the mediocrity!
The truth is that although both hotels are four stars superior and both jobs are for waiters - there is a big difference between them!
The first hotel offers five days a week, all year long job, with free accommodations and free meals.
The second hotel offers a seasonal job, and it will be for six days a week, and probably a little bit more hours a day! They also give you a free single room and free meals three times a day!
So it turns out that one extra day of work a week in Austria brings you a 1000 euro for the month!
More than just a pay
But the differences between the jobs don't end here!
Schwarzbrunn is a beautiful hotel located close to Innsbruck! The tourists there are mostly Austrian families with kids, old couples who visit for many years in a row or big groups who come with busses for a few days!
The guests are mostly all-inclusive and often eat at the restaurant three times a day! The waiters work breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and that wears you down!
Waiter jobs like that will not bring you a lot of tips! You will still make some, but 300-500 euro tips a month is not much!
On the other hand, hotel Tirol is located in one of the best ski resorts in Austria and hosts an international crowd that is there to have fun. They spend a lot of money to be there.
The waiters will work mostly split shifts: breakfast - dinner, but won't have lunch! There will be no all-inclusive guests. I expect most of the guests to be half pension so they will be paying for their drinks at the end of the dinner! That helps you make a good tip if you have done an excellent service! You can make 2000-3000 euros extra a month. Waiter jobs like that require excellent German and English, good experience and knowledge!
Working six days a week for four and a half months is not easy, but at the end of the season, you will have saved money, and you will be able to go on with your life any way you want! Maybe you will take a vacation and go back to work somewhere around the beach, or you will chill for the rest of the year as I do.
Different jobs - different life
What I am trying to tell you is that choosing the five days a week job and sticking to it is going to bring you nowhere! You will work hard every day! You will make enough money to cover your expenses and go on vacation once a year, and your life will pass by! This job is good for beginner waiters. It is perfect for waiters who don't speak much German but want to move to Austria. You can learn the language and the cuisine, but then you should move on and find a job that gives you a better life! Working breakfast, lunch, and dinner five days a week and making very little money is not a life!
The Hospitality Industry gives us a lot of opportunities if we keep searching for them, keep hustling! I can find a hotel job near me and work there for the rest of my life because it is close to home and it is convenient.
I can find a job abroad and move from one country to another, make money and friends, and learn different languages and cuisines.
